After Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended entry of Umrah pilgrims after a surge in Covid-19 cases in the Middle East, the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques revealed how the Grand Mosque undergoes extensive cleaning.
The courtyard and floors of the Grand Mosque are washed and sanitised four times daily to ensure the safety of pilgrims and visitors, Saudi Gazette reports. While the 13,500 huge prayer rugs laid out in the mosque are removed before the floors are washed and sterilised.
Jaber Widaani, director of cleansing and carpets department at the holy mosque, said, "Well trained workers are engaged in the cleaning and sterilizing process by using the highly advanced equipment and materials of cleaning and sterilization, in addition to spraying perfumes after it."
